What is myotherapy?
Myotherapy is massage therapy based on study of muscle anatomy and function.

How does myotherapy work?
Muscles work best when they are in balance.  Almost every muscle in the body has an opposing muscle.  In order for one muscle to contract the opposing muscle needs to relax.  If either side does not do its job, there is imbalance.  For example, consider the lower leg.  When walking, the small muscles on the front of the leg flex the foot up, allowing one to take a step.  But for this to happen the much larger calf muscles must relax.  If the forces are not equal the smaller muscles in front of the leg must work much harder, and then they get sore.  This makes pain down the shin when walking, which we know as shin splints.  Myotherapy techniques treat the cause of the problem, the calf.  Loosen the calf muscles and the shin splints go away.

What kinds of conditions can myotherapy help?
Some of the common conditions massage can help are:
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Migraine and Tension headaches
  • Neck pain
  • Shin splints
  • Tendonitis
  • Upper and Lower Back pain
